American rock and jazz drummer. John James King was born Jan 4, 1947 in Kingsport, TN and died Oct 27, 2010 in Kingsport, TN. After graduating high school in Kingsport, TN, John attended the University of North Texas, Denton, TX and moved to San Francisco to pursue a career in music. He was a member of the Steve Miller Band from 1972 to 1974 where he was the drummer on The Joker album. He later founded India Street Percussion, a musical instrument company. He worked with Santana, The Beach Boys, Elton John, Boz Scaggs and other artist over the years and his final project in 1987 was a jazz album, John King Ensemble on his private label India Street Music.
