Conductor Jiri Mikula (b. 1961 in Prague) graduated from the Prague Conservatory (oboe and conducting field) and the Academy of Performing Arts (conducting with Vaclav Neumann) and the Faculty of Arts of Charles University where he studied art history and aesthetics (PhD.). In 1994-1997 he served as chief conductor of the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1988-1994 he was principal conductor and director of the Symphony Orchestra of Bohemia Podebrady, in 1998-2007 he was conductor of the Prague State Opera, in the 2007/2008 season, he served as paymaster of Janacek Opera National Theatre in Brno .
Since 2005 he is visiting professor at the University of Seoul, South Korea. His repertoire includes 21 operas by Mozart (Così fan tutte, The Abduction from the Seraglio, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute), Rossini (The Barber of Seville), Puccini (Tosca, La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Turandot), Verdi (Aida, Nabucco, Il Trovatore) , Boito (Nerone), Bizet (Carmen), Gounod (Faust), Meyerbeer (Robert the devil), Thomas (Hamlet) to the authors of the 20th century, such as Bohuslav Martinu (Voice of the forest), Emil Viklický (Phaedra) Tsippi Fleischer (Cain and Abel) and Nancy Van de Vate (In the shadow of the Glen).
