Additionally, on May 5, 2018, Kahu [pastor] Kenneth Makuakāne was ordained and installed by Kawaiahaʻo Church [in Honolulu,] as its twelfth pastor. This church dates back to missionary days.

Makakuakane has received many musical awards including in 2015, a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award under the auspices of the Hawaiʻi Academy of Recording Arts.
