Anael was formed in 1999 by
Primeumathon (drums) and
Seraphackh (guitar/vocals). Their first gig was in May 2000 as a twopiece. Their first demo, Into The Dark, was recorded in September 2000 at Rape Of Harmonies studio.
Amauroptavir was recruited to play bass.
In September 2001 they recorded a Split 7 with
Buried God, called
Eye Of The Sleepless, which was released in March 2002 by
Hatespawn Inc. Also in September 2001, they recorded the
Infernal Devotion EP, which was released in March 2002 by
Sombre Records. Melechtonior took over the bass for
Amauroptavir for some live gigs in 2002. In late 2002,
Angel Of Doom took over the bass for Melechtonior, and the band entered the studio in December 2002.
Their Debut album,
Necromantic Rituals, was released in March 2003 by
Barbarian Wrath. Also in March 2003, they released the
Your Pain Is My Lust/Hope Is A Bitch split with
Lust on the
Iron Tyrant label. More live gigs followed.
In 2004,
Angel Of Doom left, so
SM Daemon replaced him on bass, and Incarnator (guitar) joined the band. In October/November 2004, they participated in the Samhain Celebration Tour with
Abigail,
Eminenz and
Morrigan. Incarnator left the band after this tour.
The band entered the studio again in early 2005 to record their second full-length, On Wings Of Mercury, which was released in September 2005 by
Barbarian Wrath.
