Marcus Lewin

Swedish jazz drummer and percussionist, born 1970 in Nyköping.

Between 1998 and 2009 he was a permanent member of Brazz Brothers.

At the age of ten he played and had great success with the jazz band Super Six, which consisted only of young musicians, including Peter Asplund and his brother Johan Lewin. During this time Lewin took drum lessons from drum legend Egil Johansen, who was his teacher and mentor for ten years. After a general music education, he continued to have contact with some of the world's best jazz drummers: Mel Lewis and Max Roach.

In the early part of his career as a professional musician, he played with, among others, Putte Wickman, Robert Wells, Arne Domnérus, Scott Hamilton and Barney Kessel.

After Egil Johansen's death in 1998, Lewin took over his mantle in the Norwegian brass sextet The Brazz Brothers (December 1988–January 2009) and with them he has toured all over the world and played with many international artists, including the vocal group The New York Voices. Marcus Lewin is today a sought-after music teacher and he has his own workshops in both Sweden and Norway. Since February 1, 2009, he has lived in Oslo and works as a freelance musician primarily in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
