Fabio's nickname came from his time on Brixton-based pirate station Phase One around 1984 when he was asked to come up with a DJ name before his first show. He remembered a conversation with a girl he knew about baby names and thought Fabio was a great one. He introduced himself as DJ Fabio and the name stuck.
Fabio is known for pioneering a style of Drum 'n' Bass he named 'liquid'. The name came from hip hop group The Likwit Junkies' description of their music as 'liquid funk'.
