He worked with : Sarah Vaughan, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Eddie Harris, Rex Stewart, Lalo Schifrin and Dizzy Gillespie.
Upon retiring from music he became one of the first African-American news anchormen in the U.S.
