American classical composer and flutist. Born March 4, 1927, New York City; died May 20, 2013, Needham, Massachusetts. He was married to the pianist Leona DiDomenica (nee Leona Knopf), who was the chief interpreter of his piano works. After Leona Knopf passed away in 1998, he married Ellen Bender, a composer, flutist and teacher.
