Experimental noise-rock band from Herne Bay, Kent, England
Splintered was formed in 1990 by
Richard Johnson (Grim Humour 'zine / Fourth Dimension Records / Lumberton Trading Company) Paul Dudeney and Paul Wright when their previous band, Playground, disbanded. They lasted until 1998 and also released many side-project records, often on
Steve Pittis' Dirter Promotions imprint or Johnson's Fourth Dimension, but likewise turning up on labels such as Meeuw Muzak and
Ralf Wehowsky's Selektion. Splintered ground to a hiatus shortly following a European tour in late 1997 - with a lineup including James Hodson (later of Faust), Hassni Malik, Colin Bradley, Stuart Carter and Richo - although a final release happened soon after.
Johnson, Carter and Malik went on to form
Theme. Spintered started playing sporadic live shows in 2015, releasing a brand new album in 2024.
Line-up of the band included: Richard Johnson (guitar, vocals, keyboards, percussion), Paul Wright (bass), Paul Dudeney (drums, vocals, percussion), Colin Bradley (guitar treatments), James Machin (lead guitar, percussion), Steve Pittis (wasp, keyboards, sampling, percussion), David Dudeney (percussion), Stuart Carter (live work from 2015)
