German violist, born in East Berlin, GDR/DDR (German Democratic Republic). Jörg Winkler has been the first viola of the Orchestra Del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino since 2003, and was a founding member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. At the invitation of Claudio Abbado, he collaborated with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Winkler has played as a viola soloist with ensembles such as the Münchner Philharmoniker, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Camerata Academica Salzburg. He is often invited to play and hold masterclasses in Italy and Europe.
