Bamses Venner founded in 1973. Although having released solo albums since 1977 he got his commercial breakthrough with the cover album Stand By Me in 1999, which sold more than 200,000 copies. His musical style ranged from pop to classic country rock. To date he has sold more than 3.5 million albums both as a solo artist and as a member of Bamses Venner. He passed away on January 1, 2011 in his home in Egå, a suburb of Aarhus, at the age of 63.
His nickname Bamse (which he later adopted as his middle name) means teddy bear but is also slang for a big man.
