CRISIS was the New York hardcore/metal quartet, formed in 1993 by guitarist/architect Afzaal Nasiruddeen, drummer Fred Waring III (grandson of classical composer Fred Waring) and bassist/classical trombonist Gia Chuan Wang. Together this trio recorded a demo which eventually ended up in the hands of ex-Mangle Dorothy singer and songwriter, Karyn Crisis. After a rehearsal was arranged, Karyn spent an evening penning some lyrics (for Drilling Me, later recorded on their debut album) and the following day sang them with the band. The band was blown away by ease with which Karyn could alternate between clean vocals, brutal death growls, shrieking, and screaming - and it won her the job as singer for the quartet.

Now led by charismatic frontwoman Karyn Crisis, the band released their debut 8 Convulsions in 1994 on Too Damn Hype Records, following with Deathshead Extermination in 1996 on Metal Blade Records. CRISIS released their 3rd album The Hollowing in 1997, which also saw departure of founding member Fred Waring, who became a father and could not tour with band anymore. The album featured 4 drummers (including Fred Waring), and CRISIS settled with Jason Bittner (ex-Stigmata and Burning Human) as a permanent replacement.

In early 2000 the band added second guitarist Jwyanza Hobson, then in 2002, followed by shift in musical direction and line-up changes, they changed their name to Skullsick Nation. Marshall Kilpatric of Today is the Day was supposed to be the new drummer, but it did not work out, so they recruited Josh Florian as a permanent drummer. Under Skullsick Nation name the band released 2 demos, then decided to reform as CRISIS.

2004 saw the release of CRISIS 4th and final album Like Sheep Led to Slaughter, on independent label. After the album release, the band did a few tours, then declared they were going on an 'indefinite hiatus' in 2006. No news of possible return has been heard ever since.
