American jazz composer, trumpeter, and musician, born in Thibodeaux, Louisiana. Best known for co-writing I Got a Woman with
Ray Charles, and playing in his band.
After his work with Charles, Richard returned to Louisiana to work as a high school teacher, and even briefly worked as a talent scout for Atlantic. He then moved to New York, and after that to Southern Florida.
