American multi-instrumentalist (horns, bass, guitar, piano) from New Orleans, Louisiana. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1974, where he met Paul McCartney and played with him for five years. In the early 1980s he returned to New Orleans.

In addition, Richard has played with Al Green, Joe Tex, Z.Z. Hill, and Candi Staton, among others.

Son of Renald Richard, cousin of Don Vappie, bassist Richard Moten, Dr. Michael White, bassist Richard Payne, and nephew of Plas Johnson.
