American record company executive and producer (November 16, 1916 – November 9, 1999).
He began with [l93673] producing such performers as
The Ravens,
Billy Eckstine and
Big Joe Turner.
In 1946 he founded his first record company, [l46437] Records, with
Jerry Blaine, but left after a year.
With his wife Miriam and his friend
Ahmet Ertegün, he founded [l98679] in 1947.
From 1955 to 1958, he ran [l3820].
After leaving [l98679], he started new record labels including [l338240], [l187188] and [l240250].
He also ran two publishing companies, [l679582] and [l813745].
He founded his own studio, [l453348], in the early sixties.
