American country singer, guitarist and songwriter.
Born September 21, 1912 in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana.
Died October 6, 1996 (aged 84) in Houston, Texas.

Best known for composing the Truck Driver's Blues and two much covered country anthems of unrequited love, Born to Lose and I'm a Fool to Care. He charted six times as a singer between 1944-46 (all in the top 6 on the country charts). He charted fourteen times as a songwriter between 1944-78. His top song was Headin' Down the Wrong Highway, in 1946, which hit #2. His top charted song as a songwriter was I'm a Fool to Care by Les Paul & Mary Ford in 1954--it hit #6. The song charted another six times. For some songs, he used the alias Frankie Brown.
He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (1970) and the Western Swing Society Hall of Fame (1994)
