Petronius (c. 27 – 66 AD) was a Roman courtier, generally believed to be the author of the Satyricon, a satirical novel.
Also known as Titus Petronius Arbiter - Nero gave him the role as referee of fine taste (arbiter elegantiae). From this later the epithet Arbiter should have arisen.
