American jazz and rhythm & blues trumpet player, born March 2, 1922, died November 7, 1958. Joe Morris started his career in jazz, but is mostly known as the leader of the R&B-oriented Joe Morris Orchestra, the unofficial house band for Atlantic in the early to mid-1950's. Several future Atlantic stars passed through this orchestra's ranks, including Ray Charles and Lowell Fulson. Morris wrote Anytime, Any Place, Anywhere for Atlantic and put the new record company on the map when it soared to number one on the R&B charts.
