Polar was a shoegaze / slowcore / dream pop band from Gainesville, FL, United States, that existed intermittently from 1993 to 1999. Founding members were:
Kristy Moss (vocals),
Ed Ballinger (guitars, keys),
Chris Pierce (guitars),
Bryan Hoben (Bass), and
Chuck Horne (drums). Later incarnations featured a rotating cast of drummers, both human and digital, with
George Rebelo of
Hot Water Music sitting in for the band's final months. Session players included
Kristen King (violin, viola),
Frog (brass), Meredith Tousey (piano), and
Rob McGregor (harmonica). Releases include: Polar (1994, self released cassette), A Future History of the Frigid Polar Night (1998), and Lies Set by the Polar Mob (1998), both in CD format on the [l23938] label. After this project's dissolution, band members
Kristy Moss and
Ed Ballinger went on to form
Con Dolore, also on the Clairecords roster.
