Canadian attorney and record company executive.
Graduated from University of British Columbia Law School in 1992; started in the music business as a lawyer in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; relocated to Minneapolis and met
Kelley Deal (of
The Breeders), and they formed independent record label Nice Records (2) (circa 1995), which evolved into his own independent record label New West Records (1997); relocated to Los Angeles, California, in November 1998. Co-founded DMZ (2) Records in 2002 (with T-Bone Burnett and Joel and Ethan Coen). Founded Southside Independent Music Publishing in 2004 (which was acquired by Warner/Chappell in December 2010); departed New West and was named CEO of Warner Chappell Music on January 4, 2011, and chairman on July 20, 2011; became head of Rhino Records and named chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Records in 2012, overseeing all of WMG's west coast U.S. operations. Resigned from Warner Music Group in 2017.
