American popular singer and vocal entertainer rooted in jazz.

She began singing at the age of 13, under the name Fredda Lipson, and joined the
Hudson-DeLange Orchestra in 1936 (age 17), and toured with them for 10 months as Fredda Gibson.
She charted 25 times solo and once with a duet with Bob Crosby. Four of her recordings rose to the top 5: Kiss of Fire, which hit #1 in 1952; Dance with Me Henry (Wallflower), which hit #1 in 1955; Tweedlee Dee, which hit #2 in 1955; and (If I Knew You Were Comin’) I’d’ve Baked a Cake, which hit #5 in 1950.
She recorded periodically as Fredda Gibbons and Fredda Gibson, and changed her name to Georgia Gibbs in the early 1940s.
