House band of
Chris Blackwell’s [l264020], Bahamas, established in 1977. The members appeared on many classic late 1970s / early 1980s Island Records releases, but were usually credited individually rather than by their collective name. Their track Peanut Butter was reworked for
Grace Jones, to become Pull Up To The Bumper.
The band consisted of a mix of Jamaican musicians (including the rhythm section of
Sly & Robbie) with British guitarist
Barry Reynolds (known for his collaborations with
Marianne Faithfull) and
Wally Badarou from
Level 42 (a French synthesizer expert with Beninese origins) who gave a reggae color to songs of pop stars like
Grace Jones or
Joe Cocker.
