Rinehart played a key role in the founding and was the original lead guitarist of the Leaves. He was a traveling companion of Gene Clark on Clark's first post-Byrds album Gene Clark With The Gosdin Brothers. Rinehart also participated in the Merry-Go-Round adventure with Emitt Rhodes.
Rinehart recorded a 45rpm under the label The Common Cold.
