McWalter is most well known for being the original guitarist for the Canadian post-hardcore band, Silverstein. He had contributed to the band's debut self release, Summer's Stellar Gaze EP, and some of the songs that debuted on Summer's Stellar Gaze were later re-recorded for the band's second EP, When The Shadows Beam as well the band's debut LP, When Broken Is Easily Fixed. He left the band in early 2001 to attend college and was then replaced by Neil Boshart.
