Billy worked, among others with: Stan Kenton, Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett, Eartha Kitt, Lena Horne, Harry Belafonte, Marlene Dietrich, Bette Midler

After touring with Kenton, Billy returned to San Francisco and in later years became well known as a legendary teacher. Among his students were: Jon Faddis, Rigby Powell, Tony Letizi, Skip Phyle, etc.
