Born September 18, 1916 Kistarcsa Died March 4, 1997 (aged 80) Budapest He was one of Hungary’s most famous tenors, whose voice and figure became inextricably linked in the consciousness of several Hungarian generations with the title role of Ferenc Erkel’s opera Bánk bán. He joined the chorus of the Hungarian State Opera in 1940 and was a lifetime member. He studied at the National Royal Hungarian Liszt Ferenc College of Music (1943–1945).
