Il comprend des textes, des reproductions d’œuvres, ainsi que des enregistrements sonores inédits, réunis et commentés, avec la collaboration de Jonathan Goldman, par Jean-Jacques Nattiez, spécialiste de Pierre Boulez, qui consacre ici un long essai aux rapports de la poésie et de la musique dans l’œuvre et la pensée de Yves Bonnefoy. Le livre comprend notamment un enregistrement par Jeanne-Marie Conquer de deux œuvres pour violon de Pierre Boulez, Anthèmes et Anthèmes, avec une esquisse de la première, un texte du compositeur les commentant et des exemples sonores le complétant. Également dans ce livre, un texte de Yves Bonnefoy sur les relations de la poésie et de la musique avec des exemples musicaux les illustrant, ainsi que la voix du poète lisant trois de ses poèmes, dont un inédit écrit pour ce livre et un autre consacré à Kathleen Ferrier. On peut entendre l’inoubliable contralto dans un enregistrement fait à Vienne en 1952 devenu inaccessible de l’une des deux mélodies du Chant de la terre de Gustav Mahler. Enfin, une série de tableaux de Carol Bernier, reproduits dans ce livre, témoignent de ce que la quête de l’« arrière-pays » chez Yves Bonnefoy, lui a inspiré.

It includes texts, reproductions of works, as well as unpublished sound recordings, gathered and commented, with the collaboration of Jonathan Goldman, by Jean-Jacques Nattiez, specialist of Pierre Boulez, who devotes here a long essay to the reports of the poetry and music in the work and thought of Yves Bonnefoy. The book includes a recording by Jeanne-Marie Conquer of two works for violin by Pierre Boulez, Anthems and Anthems, with a sketch of the first, a text of the composer commenting on them and sound examples completing it. Also in this book, a text by Yves Bonnefoy on the relations of poetry and music with musical examples illustrating them, as well as the voice of the poet reading three of his poems, including an unpublished one written for this book and another devoted to Kathleen Ferrier. The unforgettable contralto can be heard in a recording made in Vienna in 1952 that has become inaccessible to one of Gustav Mahler's two songs. Finally, a series of paintings by Carol Bernier, reproduced in this book, testify to the fact that Yves Bonnefoy's search for the hinterland inspired him.
