Recorded in November 2001 at our apartment on Queen street west in Toronto on a 1/4 inch 4track, here is a newly remastered version of the strange one-off albumi made as PERPLEXIS.
Like i wrote in the HEADQUAKE TAPES bio, I was in a rather dark place in my head at this time of life, and like the music on those recordings, this album is quite dark and disjointed as well. I remember thinking at the time that the only way to convey a true psychedelic experience was to have the music warp and fall apart like perception does. Well like my perception at the time anyway.
The album was recorded solo and using mostly just my cheap little Yamaha PSS-270 keyboard. There are a bit of real drums on a few songs but most of the rhythm is from that Yamaha, overloaded into the tapedeck and usually with some tape echo or with two separate rhythm tracks mixed into opposite speakers. There's also some guitar, echoey vocals, radio sounds, and my old Korg MS20 in there. Many of the tracks were mostly improvised and I wasn't really planning to release this album at the time, but i got on a roll through that November and recorded about 15 songs in this style. In early 2002, i decided to put out a few copies on my CDR label Great Beyond Recordings.
There's a few different edits and mixes here from the original CDR release, as well as the track order and the replacing of one track for another. The song WATERSIDE MELODY from the original is gone and replaced with a better song called BEING. Sorry but since days after putting the original album out i've wanted to make that change. It'll help keep the rare original CDR special for you collectors. Ha.
Anyhow, hope you like it. I wasn't gonna add this album to my Bandcamp but i've gotten a few requests over the years so here it is. Thanks friends.
