'B.B. Blues' is a song written by Riley B King, better known now as B.B. King, along with writing partner Jules Taub. Taub was a song-writing credit pseudonym used by Jules Bihari, better known as a businessman who, along with his brothers, owned Modern Records of which RPM was a subsidiary label. It is likely that Taub had little or nothing to do with the actual composing of the song but was given credit as a form of shared royalty income agreement with King.

'B.B. Blues' was recorded by Sam Phillips at his Memphis Recording Services studio, 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 8, 1951 along with other songs in the session. It was the third take of this song that was selected for release. Sam had not yet begun his soon-to-be-famous Sun Records label, so his recordings were made for release on labels such as Chess, 4-Star, Modern and RPM.

'B.B. Blues' was released on RPM shortly after the flip side, 'She's Dynamite', was recorded by Sam Phillips on May 27, 1951. 'She's Dynamite' was written by Hudson Whittaker, who's performing pseudonym was Tampa Red. Tampa Red had originally recorded the song for RCA Victor on March 20, 1951, quickly releasing the single in April.

Depending on which source you reference, there is no definitive certainty on which side was the intended A side of the record, however; 'She's Dynamite' was recorded and timed to take advantage of the customer demand for the original Tampa Red song which had been released a few weeks earlier. Other references rely on the recording dates and matrix numbers to establish the A and B side attributes.
