Chariot Music
compilation producer Rab Noakes
Over the last few years, I have had recordings sent to me by people who thought, rightly, that I would like to have a comprehensive archive of my past work. These tapes had been mouldering in garages and attics for 40 years unbeknown to me, or at least, I knew nothing of their existence until they fell onto the mat inside the door. Added to this, some performances of mine came to light in the archives of the School of Scottish Studies in Edinburgh, two featuring The McCalmans. In addition, I had some old stuff myself, on reel-to-reel tape, which Rab Noakes helped me to extricate from that format and put onto CD comprising recordings from a show at Leith Town Hall and including a duet with Mike Whellans. This was enough to make me think that it would be interesting for people to have access to this music, especially as I have now travelled back to my roots after many years and different incarnations and again sing traditional and semi acoustic music a lot. Even some of the songs here have found themselves coming full circle and landing in my concert set list in the 21st Century, so the importance, to my mind, of this material speaks for itself.
