curated by, liner notes Thomas Park Produced For Electronic Cottage I presented this challenge, with Hal McGee's permission, to the Electronic Cottage collaborative group:
I remember trying to describe the kind of music I make to mainstream listeners– I usually resorted to saying something like, “Like soundtrack music, for a movie”. Some commercial soundtracks themselves have been quite memorable, and often I especially notice the music and sounds that accompany horror films. Sometimes, campy music works where more formal falls flat for scary movies. Sometimes it is the other way around.
For those into internet music, simply recording some dark sounds is not difficult, and should not require too much effort. And that is fine for this project. But I would request that EC members think of this as a challenge: given what you have, what talents and gear– what kind of horror soundtrack could you best make? What horror score would best reflect your studio and strongpoints as a musician or sound artist or both?
