Access to legendary producer Joe Meek’s Tea Chest Tapes has given us a wonderful insight into just went into making a hit. Johnny Remember Me was Meek’s first number one in 1961, catapulting John Leyton to pop stardom and establishing Meek as an independent producer. This release explores the various stages from humble early demo, studio chatter and false starts, lyric changes (the mythical ‘death’ lyric is included here) and finally to the final hit in all it’s glory along with the singles original B-side.
