This version released in 1989 and sold until the more well known cover art was swapped, presumably in early 1990. Phish held a release party concert for the Junta tape on May 9, 1989 at The Front club in their native Burlington, Vermont.

The song titles/track list differs slightly on the tape compared to the liner notes:
- The tape is labeled Side 1 and Side 2, the liner notes refer to Side A and Side B
- Golgi Apparatus is listed on the tape as Golgi
- Dinner And A Movie is listed on the tape as Dinner And Movie
- The Divided Sky is listed on the tape as Divided Sky
- Fluff's Travels is not listed on the tape
