By the early 1960s, the original master tape has deteriorated so badly that a second generation copy was made, dubbed from a pressing. Over the years a third and fourth generation master were struck from this, accentuating the built-in distortion that was present on the original first generation tape. In 1989 the existing dash 4 master was found to be unusable, so a search was made for a first edition master pressing LP. A virtually unplayed copy (Columbia CL.549) was finally located in London.
