Karen Knowles was a regular member of the National weekly talent show Young Talent Time, When in October 1980, she signed a recording contract with the Fable Record Company Pty Ltd.

Her First single Why Won't You Explain was released, Creating Australian recording history by becoming the first school girl to receive a gold single (50,000 copies).

Karen has appeared on major TV shows including The Don Lane Show, The Mike Walsh Show, Hey, Hey It's Saturday, Countdown and Sounds.

In May 1981 Karen's first album, You Are The Reason, was released.

She received a platinum award for this album when it sold in excess of 50,000 copies and she became Australia's top female recording artist.

She also received the B & T Australian Record Award for this Album.
