Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes composed the song Garôta de Ipanema in 1962, inspired by a local girl's (Helô Pinheiro) daily trips to the beach. Five years later the song has transcended the boundaries of a mere super-hit - it had reached a fever pitch in Brazil and abroad, where it traveled far and wide thanks to Astrud Gilberto's recording. A film based on it was almost inevitable. Directed by Leon Hirzman, the 1967 feature loosely followed the lifestyle of the Bossa nova generation.
