I Am Sitting In A Room is Alvin Lucier's idea of a pure sound experiment. Through playback and recording of thirty-two successive generations of his own speaking voice, the sound becomes abstracted into a pure harmonic. The album starts with a relatively bland Lucier stating, I am sitting in a room, but as the repetitious generations progress, the sound is transformed into pure ambience. As Lucier suggests in the recording, this sound is the dynamic of the room his voice was recorded in. Recorded by the composer on October 29 and 31, 1980 in the living room of his home in Middletown, Connecticut expressly for this well-pressed Lovely Music record. The photography is from the original Polaroid Image Series by Mary Lucier. Mastered at Europadisk.
