Inside booklet reads: This is a tribute to some of the bands that pioneered the use of the Synthesizer, not only as a pop instrument but as a shiningly modern source to futurist romance. The celebrated artists are all British, their careers took off n the late seventies/ early eighties, and they are all somehow interwoven in the same web - a web in which the centre is not occupied by the usual hungry spider, but by four German robot musicians, David Bowie's theatrical excesses and a strong yearning for danceable postpunk glamour. Obviously backgrounds and record collections differ, but without Kraftwerk and Bowie these artists, all at some point associated with the synthpop- or new romantic tags, would have looked and sounded a whole lot different if they had started making music at all.
