This is the rawest album ever recorded in this country!. These were the words Samir uttered before the album even got into the hands of the listeners. True, I feel that something so bestial and hateful will never see the light of day in our country again. A year after the release of the first album, the ice has moved. Dan and Samir shortened the band name and put the right face on their project. The album Flashback became a cult. For its hardness, viciousness, meanness... The main role is played by (cruelly) hard samples, dark keyboards and Samir’s mean vocals. Dusan Vozary helped with the record and praised the hardness of the material. However, he had no idea that he was standing at a historic moment in Czech EBM. The lyrics have become a chapter in themselves, Flashback offering some truly peppy wordplay that perhaps only passed muster in the 1990s thanks to the looseness of the times.

What does the author himself say about the lyrics? They’re about drugs, about people who take drugs, about people who make drugs, about people who catch people who make drugs. There’s also something about love and hate... and something about drugs. Some people ask me if we’re serious and if we’re really describing our experiences. Be that as it may, drugs played a part in the making of this album, something that Samir has admitted to several times in interviews, always remembering to include a harsh interjection.
The immortal hit Dig Yourself Out also received a great video treatment for its time (Rodny had to edit it on completely analogue equipment in one night) and subsequently won the 1993 MTV award). But there are far peppier hits, such as the brutally honest Love Stinks and the anti-racist White Power. The junkie anthem Colombia is also unforgettable. The only song sung in English is a reworking of The Legendary Pink Dots’ A Space Between. I’ve got my phone tapped at home, and there’s always a gravel truck outside my house. But I’m glad that the young drug addicts are taking a cue from the lyrics, because I think my lyrics are a stepping stone to harder and harder drugs, so it’s quite right that young people understand. Extreme? This is Vanessa. I should add to this album that the end of the track listing is filled with a bonus live performance. Flashback is an incredibly brutal album, but also revolutionary and extremely original for its time. Vanessa became the toughest Czech band! The Monitor company could have congratulated themselves (though they visibly preferred the well-known alcoholic societies).

„To je nejtvrdší deska, které v Československu vznikla!“. To jsou slova Samira, která vyřkl ještě předtím, než se album dostalo posluchačům vůbec do rukou! Pravda a mám pocit, že něco tak bestiálního a nenávistného v naší zemi už nikdy nespatří světlo světa. Rok od vydání prvního alba se ledy hnuly. Dan se Samirem zkrátili název kapely a svému projektu nasadili tu pravou tvář. Album Flashback se stalo kultem. Pro svou tvrdost, zákeřnost, zlost, podlost… Hlavní úlohu hrají (ukrutně) tvrdé samply, temné klávesy a podlý Samirův vokál. S deskou pomáhal Dušan Vozáry, který si tvrdost materiálu pochvaloval. To však ještě netušil, že stojí z pohledu české EBM u historického momentu. Samotnou kapitolou se staly i texty, Flashback nabízí vskutku peprná slovní spojení, která v devadesátých letech prošla snad jen díky „uvolněnosti doby“.

Co o textech říká sám autor? „Jsou o drogách, o lidech, co berou drogy, o lidech, kteří je vyrábějí, o lidech, co chytají lidi, co vyrábějí drogy. Taky je tam něco o lásce a nenávisti… a taky něco o drogách. Někteří lidé se mě ptají, jestli to myslíme vážné a jestli popisujeme skutečně naše zážitky.“ Ať je to jak chce, drogy měly na vzniku tohoto alba svůj podíl, což Samir několikrát v rozhovorech přiznal a vždycky nezapomněl připojit nějakou drsnou vsuvku.
Nesmrtelným hitem se stala skladba „Prokopat se ven“, která se dočkala rovněž na svou dobu skvělého klipového zpracování (Rodný ho musel na kompletně analogovém zařízení sestříhat během jediné noci) a následně vyhrál cenu MTV za rok 1993). Najdou se tu však mnohem peprnější hity, například brutálně upřímná „Láska smrdí“ nebo protirasistická „Bílá moc“. Nezapomenutelná je i narkomanská hymna „Kolumbie“. Jedinou anglicky zpívanou písní je předělávka „A Space Between“ od The Legendary Pink Dots. „Mně docela záleží na tom, aby těm textům někdo rozuměl, ale zase ne všichni. Doma mám napíchnutej telefon a před barákem neustále jezdí nějaká škodovka. Ale jsem rád, že ty mladý narkomani si z těch textů berou příklad, protože já myslím, že moje texty jsou odrazovým můstkem k tvrdším a tvrdším drogám, takže je docela správný, že tomu mladý lidi rozuměj.“ Extrém? Tohle je Vanessa. Dodat bych k tomuto albu ještě měl, že závěr stopáže je vyplněn bonusem v podobě živého vystoupení. Flashback je neskutečně brutální album, ale zároveň revoluční a na svou dobu také nesmírně originální. Vanessa se stala nejtvrdší českou kapelou! Firma Monitor si mohla gratulovat (i když viditelně dávala přednost známým alko spolkům).
