American producer, sound archivist and writer, born December 16, 1916 in New Rochelle, New York; died April 10, 2012 in Castine, Maine.
Under his leadership as classic music director in the 1950s, and in collaboration with producer couple
Wilma Cozart and
Robert Fine, the [l122877] classical recordings were created. Hall went on to internationally teach advanced recording techniques, and became music editor of [l105674] (later [l165646]). Since 1963 he was president of [l27602], and since 1967 curator of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Archives of Recorded Sound.
He received the ARSC Award for Distinguished Service to Historical Recordings in 2002.
