Founded Expansion in 1986 with John Anderson on which he continues to release compilations, notably the Soul Togetherness series.
Authored a book on the Northern Soul scene, Setting The Record Straight: Music And Memories From Wigan Casino 1973-1981, published in September 2018.
Awarded the British Empire Medal in June 2019 for services to the soul music industry and community in the north of England; the medal was presented in November 2019.
