Get Smart! is a three-piece post-punk band formed at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, USA, in 1980.
The band released 2 studio albums along with some singles and EPs over a 10-year career. The band re-united in 2020.
Numbers And Colours flexi disc issued with Talk Talk magazine (May 13, 1981), followed by a self-released 4 song 7,
Words Move (Dec. 8, 1981). In 1983 they relocated to Chicago, IL. The group signed to [l400969] (an independent label in Philadelphia, PA) and released their first album,
Action Reaction in 1984. For the band's second album, Fever Records arranged a pressing and distribution deal with [l755] in Los Angeles, CA. [m446764] was released in 1986 on Enigma's [l653] boutique label. The band disbanded in 1990.
Get Smart! reunited in 2020 and put out the previously unreleased 6-song EP [m2385790], recorded by
Iain Burgess in 1987 and mixed in 2020 by
Steve Albini. It's available now on the band's Bandcamp page. A 40th Anniversary edition reissue of 'Action Reaction' was released November 15, 2024 by Take The City Records (Spain). The release was in both yellow and black vinyl and included an acoustic version of What It Is We Fear recorded for the 'Heat From The Wind Chill Factory' compilation of Chicago bands.
