American jazz trombonist, born May 17, 1908 in Middlebourne, West Virginian, USA, died August 28, 1975 in Santa Barbara, California, USA.
Moved with family to Dallas in 1920, where he first worked as a saxophonist. Took up trombone, played in Chicago with
Abe Lyman 1928-1935, toured and recorded with
Bob Crosby 1936-1940. Between 1940 and 1945 performed in Chicago area with
Wingy Manone and others. Then moved to California, working again with Crosby 1945, with
Pete Daily 1947-1949,
Lu Watters 1949-1950,
Jess Stacy 1950 and
Nappy Lamare 1951. Later with Joe Darensbourg 1957-1960. In the early 1960s joined
Red Nichols. He continued to play in California up to his death.
